Hello book lovers and welcome to Bàrd Books for another Singles Book Club. Each month we pick a new book: something you’ve hopefully not discovered, something new and exciting to discuss with other like-minded book lovers. We’ll have some questions to get the conversation started, so all you need to do is read the book, turn up and be ready to chat.
What a better way to meet someone than in the pages of a book or over the pages of a book...
Come for the book chat, stay for the chemistry!
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THE BOOK BEFORE ATTENDING!
Bàrd Books on Roman Road – Tuesday 17th November!
Book of the month:
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Longlisted for the Booker Prize 2021, shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke Award 2022 and about to grace our screens in a new adaptation starring Amy Adams and Jenna Ortega, Klara and the Sun asks the ultimate question: what does it mean to love?
The novel tells the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behaviour of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass in the street outside. She remains hopeful a customer will soon choose her, but when the possibility emerges that her circumstances may change for ever, Klara is warned not to invest too much in the promises of humans.
A thrilling feat of world-building, a novel of exquisite tenderness and impeccable restraint, Klara and the Sun is a magnificent achievement
'A delicate, haunting story' The Washington Post,
'This is a novel for fans of Never Let Me Go . . . tender, touching and true.' The Times
