This time we're heading up Mount Penteli for a relaxed, beginner-friendly afternoon hike. Forest paths, marble quarries, a mountain spring and views across all of Attica, with plenty of time to talk along the way 🫶
The pace stays easy and the conversation comes on its own.
This edition is for singles aged 25 to 37, guided by a certified mountain leader from the Athens-based EOP Hiking Team. Four-legged friends are welcome too 🐾
The plan: 🕑 14.00 Meet and check-in at the meeting point (HERE) 🚗 No car? Message us on Instagram (@thursday.athina) and we'll help you find a ride. 👋 A short welcome from your Thursday host and the EOP guide. 🥾 14.15 Off we go, at a slow and steady pace.
Where we walk • Up from Dionysos to the Dionysos marble quarries, just below the summit of Penteli. • Wide views across Attica from around 680 m 🌄 • Past the old houses where the quarry workers once lived. • A loop down to Solinari Spring, where the workers collected their water 💧 • On to the Museum of Quarrying Art in Aloula, then back through the forest to where we started.
On the way, your guide tells you the story of Dionysos marble and how it connects to the Acropolis, and shows you where an ancient road once began 🏛️

What to expect: 🗺️ 4 to 5 km. ⛰️ 200 to 300 m up and down. 🪨 Dirt trails, rocky marble sections and a few dirt roads. 😌 Easy and relaxed, made for beginners and first-time hikers, with a few short uphill stretches. 👟 Hiking boots strongly recommended for the rocky ground, sports shoes work too.
What to bring: • Layers, a t-shirt, something warm and a jacket. • Leggings or hiking trousers. • A second pair of socks. • Your own raincoat, if you have one. • 1.5 L of water, plus some juice if you like. • Snacks for the breaks.
Provided • A certified mountain leader. • First aid kit. • Trekking poles. • 500 ml bottled water. • Disposable rain ponchos.
First-time hikers and regular walkers, all welcome. Come on your own like most people do, or bring a friend along.
